Golden Latte Recipe: A Warming, Anti-Inflammatory Drink

When starting my day with something warm, nourishing, and anti-inflammatory, I often alternate between matcha lattes and turmeric lattes. Both offer incredible health benefits, but my turmeric “golden latte” is a particular favourite for its warming spices and soothing properties. Packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, this golden latte feels like a hug in a mug, especially on those chilly mornings or whenever my body could use a little extra support.

Turmeric, the star ingredient, has been used for centuries for its powerful anti-inflammatory benefits. Curcumin, the active compound in turmeric, has been shown to support the immune system, fight inflammation, and even help with mood. This makes a turmeric latte not only delicious but also an excellent addition to a wellness-focused routine. For me, it’s one of the simplest ways to get more turmeric into my diet – and it’s just as enjoyable as a warm, comforting drink.

Here’s my go-to recipe for a golden latte, which you can make with either fresh or powdered turmeric, depending on what you have on hand. It’s quick, easy, and can be adapted to your taste preferences. I often add a pinch of black pepper to enhance the absorption of curcumin, making this latte even more beneficial.

Golden Latte Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of your favourite milk (dairy, almond, oat, or coconut)

  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder (or 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric root, peeled and grated)

  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder (or 1 cinnamon stick)

  • 1 star anise

  • ¼ teaspoon ginger powder (or a small piece of fresh ginger, grated)

  • A pinch of black pepper (or 5 peppercorns to boost absorption)

  • ½ teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional to sweeten)

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional, for extra warmth)

Method

  1. Pour your milk into a small saucepan and gently heat over low to medium heat until it’s warm but not boiling.

  2. Add turmeric, cinnamon (stick or powder), ginger, black pepper, and star anise to the milk. If you’re using fresh turmeric or ginger, grate them directly into the pan.

  3. Whisk the mixture thoroughly to combine the spices with the milk. Simmer on low for 3-5 minutes, allowing the flavours to infuse and the turmeric to blend smoothly.

  4. Stir in honey or maple syrup if you like a bit of sweetness and a touch of vanilla extract for extra warmth. Whisk again to make it smooth and frothy.

  5. For a silky texture, strain the latte into a mug to remove any bits of turmeric or ginger. Enjoy it warm, feeling the comfort of each sip!
